But what the heck is the meaning of "almechd"? The answer to this question is only obvious to those who grew up in Franconia, Germany: “almechd” is a dialect expression and means something like "Oh my goodness". And Doris uses this expression a lot...

To better reflect the pronunciation, it should be written more like “allmaechd”. But since we had to squeeze it into the 7 character limit of a Vermont license plate, it became “almechd”. Who can argue about the correct writing of dialect expressions anyway?
